4 misconceptions about care and carers

Almost everyone has a perception of care workers be it a good one or bad one. After being in the industry for over 14 years we hear some of the myths around caring daily and would like to put a few of them straight. All of our carers love their jobs and are brilliant it, it’s one of the most rewarding careers and we are all proud to be carers!

1. Anyone can do it, it’s easy!

Yes people that chose to be carers love their job and would not want to do anything else so you will not hear them complaining about their jobs. However it is not easy physically or emotionally. Lifting, listening, caring, advising, hoping, bending, leaning, supporting and general every day tasks as a carer can be hard work. It takes a special kind of person to be a good carer.

2. All care services are the same

We have all heard some of the bad stories that end up in the press about incidents with carers that have unfortunately tarred the reputation of all care companies and carers. All care companies are not the same. Lease of Life pride ourselves on our first class care services and excellent fully trained carers.

3. Its only really old people who need care

It is a common misconception that it is only elderly people that need help around the house or with their personal care. This is not the case. Our clients can be of any age over 18, many of them younger than 60.

4. It’s a job not a profession

Care is a rapidly growing industry with some amazing opportunities to progress, train and learn more about the job. All of our carers are fully trained and are given the opportunities to continue their learning to higher levels. There are over 50 qualifications available to care workers to improve their skills and knowledge and Lease of Life encourages this.
